OOOps!

Okay, so I am completely freaking out. I just got off the phone with our landlord and it seems we are in trouble for painting. We discussed the painting before we moved in and Paul and I both were sure she said we could paint anything except for the outside of the house and she is sure she said we could only paint Alayna's room. She is slightly ticked off I think. I had to e-mail her pictures of the new colors and we'll see what she says. She seems most upset about the "faux finish" in the dining room that I covered up. I'll just post the before and after photos and you all can be the judge. I can take the criticism, I need honest evaluations and several of them. If you are reading this, you can comment about the colors here so I can see what you think...okay? I know who you are and I will hunt you down for an opinion!! Here they are before on the RIGHT and after on the LEFT (backwards I know, but it is really hard to get pictures lined up and this is what I settled for!):

Eating area

Kitchen

Entry way and hall

Dining room

Living Room/Den

If anyone has ever been a tenant who has done this and has some advice, I would appreciate that too! I feel like a teenager who has just been caught for something BAD and I am waiting for my punishment!

Can't you just re-paint it when you leave?

I think you did a FABULOUS job; it is very beautiful!! I can't see how anyone wouldn't like it!

I think you have done an AWESOME job with the painting! It looks like a model home if you ask me...oh thats right, you did! I'm not a huge fan of that faux finish that was there and all of the orange...your colors are way more trendy and really opens up the house. She should be THANKING you! Heck, I've got a basement that I can't pick out colors on that has been "blank" and staring at me for almost 2 years now. HELP!!! lol. Hopefully she will be releved you didn't paint it goth black and thank you for making it look BETTER than before! Seriously...I really really love it!

Oh no!!! I, of course, prefer the new paint job, but she obviously has different tastes and thinks differently. Maybe she'll just get used to it once she calms down a little.

Well, you know I think it looks good. I can't believe you got in "trouble". I still wish we had "vandalized" the outside by painting over that hideous green! In all honesty, I think the living room/eating/kitchen area is similar (at least in the photos) only more of a brown tone than the orangy tone. If she's been in FL long, that may be what she's lamenting. There's no going back though, so all you can do is put a positive spin on it, like how clean it looks and how well it will show; it wouldn't hurt to add that it is still in the same color family... :)

I think it looks great, but we have color samples up on most of our wall still :/

I hope that she is able to really see the beauty in it once she calms down a little.

The new paint is SOOO much better. Faux painting is not the fad it once was(....sorry to those of you who love your faux painting.) The tans and neutral colors are the newer colors and that is what every builder is using in their new construction. You did a great job! Trust your good taste and judgement!

I think yours looks a lot better than the before, especially the faux finish wall. When I lived in a nice apartment complex, I could paint anything I wanted to, I just had to paint it back white when I left. The faux finish might be hard to duplicate, but if she wants the old colors back when you leave (she probably won't) then worry about it then! Good Luck!

The after photos look GREAT! I pray that the issues with your landlord work themselves out. Years ago faux finishes may have been complicated and expensive, but these days they have so many ways an inept designer like me could do things that only a pro could do before. This will blow over...
